Chicago's No Doctors blurgle (blurt + gurgle) a dissonant, swaggering
destruction, a Pussy Galore wipe-the-slate-clean blade through blues
rock without PG's eagerness to cheap-seats offense. No Doctors don't
rely on such polyester shirts, because their sound is grating enough.
Their new LP, the Twig Harper- and Chiara Giovondo-produced Hunting Season
(Go Johnny Go), is like listening to Blue Cheer tapes coated in a soot
patina, so choked is the full-throttle adrenaline and drowned-in-sound
the mix, making the bursts that flash through the murk--e.g.,
"Sharkskin Blues"--flowering ear bleeds. The new Erp Shints EP (No Sides) wipes the dust away to reveal a quintet just as clamorous and dangerous. Crucial self-abuse, this is.
